Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dates and rates for this upcoming summer?
Our 2012 summer season begins Thursday, June 28 and runs through Wednesday, August 22 (camp will be closed Wednesday, July 4.) All sessions run from Thursday through Wednesday. Families can register for anywhere from 2 weeks through 8 weeks and consecutive weeks are not required for registration (although it is recommended for campers in Nursery and Kindergarten groups) Click here to see our specific dates and rates.
What are the times of camp?
Depending on where you live, you can expect your child to be picked up sometime between 8:15AM and 8:45AM. Our air-conditioned mini buses arrive at our campgrounds between 9:00am and 9:30am. Mini-day buses (for 3’s and 4’s only) depart camp for home at 2:10pm. Queens buses (and western Nassau) leave camp at approximately 4:00PM. Nassau buses leave camp at approximately 4:20pm. Parents can also arrange pick up or drop off at camp.
What geographic areas do your campers come from?
We offer transportation from as far north as Glen Coveand as far south as Merrick. We have transportation as far west as Forest Hills and as far east as Plainview. We pick up door to door with friendly bus counselors who get to know your child. Some parents choose to drive their children to and from camp from outside of our travel area at a discounted rate.
What is your staff to child ratio and how does bunking work?
Each age group at camp gets split into teams to receive specialized attention. Our Nursery and Lower Camp (entering K through 3rd grade) age groups boast a very high staff to child ratio of 3:1 for Nursery and 5:1 for Lower Camp. Our Upper Camp (entering 4th through 8th grade) staff ratio is 8:1.
How does the staffing at camp work?
Each group at camp has a Group Leader (either certified teacher or adult with years of professional experience working in education) that supervises the group and their staff. Our counselors are a mix of college students and adults, usually with a wealth of knowledge about camp, having grown up as children at Camp Jacobson themselves. Additional supervision is provided by Junior Counselors, Junior Interns, and CIT’s who assist counselors in each age group. Activity periods are led by Head Specialists who come with a significant amount of experience in their individual areas.
How do trips work?
Campers entering 4th grade will have 3 trips during the summer, while 5th and 6th graders go on 2-3 trips per week. Campers entering 7th and 8th grades go on 3-4 trips per week. These campers also go on two overnight trips: a 2-day trip and a 4-day trip to Club Getaway. Click here to see more about the trips your child will go on.
